Below Jim Aaron explains a little bit more about hardwood.

Different Types of Hardwood

When it comes down to choosing hardwood, you have a couple of different options including solid and engineered hardwood.

Solid hardwood is the original hardwood option. It features a simple construction of a solid piece of lumber that is usually ¾” thick. Solid hardwood has a unique characteristic that cannot be replicated by any other flooring option. Solid hardwood adds value to your home because of this, and also because it is a long-lasting option. Solid hardwood can be refinished but the amount of times depends on how thick the tongue is on the side of the plank.

Engineered hardwood features a special layered construction made from multiple real wood veneers with a premium piece of hardwood on the surface. Since engineered hardwood is made with a modern construction, it is stable and can handle everyday life in your home and frequent foot traffic. Engineered hardwood comes in many different options to choose from ranging in color, style, and even species. These floors can also be refinished, depending on how thick the top piece of wood is.

Where can Hardwood be Installed?

Engineered hardwood can be installed on all levels of your home, even finished basements with moisture control. Solid hardwood is limited in where it can be installed, but still adds value none-the-less in places like bedrooms and living rooms. When properly maintained, hardwood can last for years in your home. Cleaning your hardwood floor is simple, but it does require regular maintenance.

Other places you can install engineered hardwood include home offices, and even hallways and kitchens.
